How much does the Sendblue iMessage API cost?

Sendblue publishes a free sandbox, a dedicated line at $100 per month, and custom enterprise pricing. Billing is per phone line per month rather than per message, so volume within a line's safe sending limit does not change the bill.

How it compares

ProviderCheapest dedicated line
LoopMessage$59.99/month
Sendblue$100/month
Miss Blue$198/month
Blooio$195/line promotional
Photon$250/line

Sendblue sits in the middle of the market for a dedicated number — not the cheapest, not premium. The full comparison.

What is not on the pricing page

  • A line's safe daily ceiling. Commonly cited around 100 new conversations a day, lower while warming up. If your volume needs more, you need another line — that is the real price.
  • Number portability. Most providers do not let you take a number with you. Ask before you print it anywhere.
  • The person answering replies, which is the largest real cost of this channel and never appears on any pricing page.

Test before you pay

The sandbox needs no card and gives full API access. Send yourself a real message, watch the delivery events arrive, and reply from your phone to see the inbound webhook fire.

What moved in 2026, and what did not

  • Per-line billing held. Nobody in the category moved to per-message pricing, because the underlying constraint — one number, real hardware behind it — has not changed.
  • The entry point stayed low. $20 a month for a shared sender remains the cheapest real way to get a customer-facing number.
  • Compliance became a differentiator. More vendors now lead with a SOC 2 posture, which mostly shows up at the enterprise end rather than in list prices.
  • Agent-focused pricing appeared. Free and $25 tiers exist now, though they run on your own Apple ID rather than a managed line.

The agency row is the one that surprises people

Per-line pricing does not amortise across sub-accounts the way metered SMS does. If you are reselling, price the line into what you charge rather than absorbing it. The GoHighLevel version of this problem.

Against the alternative

Metered SMS at a few cents per message plus carrier fees can beat this at very low volume and loses badly at moderate volume. The crossover is usually low enough that most small businesses are better off on a line. The real cost comparison.

Before you sign

Ask about

  • Setup or onboarding fees.
  • The price of an additional line — rarely the same as the first.
  • Whether SMS and RCS fallback is included or metered.
  • Minimum contract length.
  • Whether the number is portable if you leave.
