For business

Can you use the iMessage Business Chat API for sales automation?

Only for inbound. Apple Messages for Business can automate your side of a conversation the customer started — qualification, scheduling, even payment through Apple Pay — but it cannot initiate contact, so it cannot run outbound sequences, follow-ups or re-engagement.

What it can and cannot automate

Sales motionMessages for Business?Why
Inbound enquiry qualificationYesCustomer started it — automate freely
Booking a demo in-threadYesTime pickers are native
Taking paymentYesApple Pay works inside the thread
Outbound prospectingNoCannot send first
Follow-up after silenceNoCannot re-initiate
Re-engaging a cold leadNoCannot send first

The realistic architecture

Messages for Business for inbound, a third-party provider for outbound. They are separate threads from the customer's point of view, so decide deliberately which number carries which relationship. The one-number-or-many question.

If outbound is the actual requirement

Then this is the wrong product and a third-party provider is the answer — with the legal caveat that matters more in B2B than most people expect: TCPA governs messages to mobile numbers and does not carve out business-to-business. The B2B playbook and the legal overview.

Where iMessage genuinely wins at sales

Speed to lead. Someone requests a demo at 2:14pm and a message arrives at 2:16pm from a named person. Response rates to that are not comparable to email, and it needs no volume at all. The mechanics.
