For business
How does the iMessage Business Chat API integrate with a CRM?
Through your Customer Service Platform. Apple requires you to connect via an approved CSP, and that platform is what routes conversations, holds agent tooling and integrates with your CRM. You generally do not build against Apple's API yourself — you build against, or configure, the CSP.
The integration path
- Apple delivers the conversation to your approved CSP.
- The CSP routes, queues and presents it to agents — and holds the CRM connectors.
- Your CRM receives the conversation as an activity, usually through the CSP's native integration.
- Your systems may never talk to Apple's API at all.
Choose the CSP on its CRM integration, not on Apple
Every approved CSP has the same Apple capability, because Apple defines it. Where they differ is agent tooling, routing logic, analytics and which CRMs they connect to natively. That is where your evaluation should sit.
The comparison with a third-party provider
| Messages for Business | Third-party provider | |
|---|---|---|
| CRM path | Through the CSP's connectors | Direct, via webhook or native app |
| Who you integrate with | The CSP | The provider |
| Outbound triggers from CRM | Not possible | Yes — the normal pattern |
| Time to live | Weeks to months | About an hour |
If your requirement is "CRM stage change fires a message", that is outbound and Messages for Business cannot do it. The third-party CRM guide, and the GoHighLevel specifics.
